Function of Bushings

Bushings, also known as silentblocs or rubber cushions, are essential articulating components found in many parts of your vehicle's chassis and suspension system (control arms, stabilizer bars, engine mounts, exhaust mounts, etc.).

Their primary role is to absorb shocks, vibrations, and noise between different moving metal parts, while allowing for some flexibility and controlled movement. They thus greatly contribute to driving comfort, reduction of road noise, and protection of other components from excessive stress.

Maintenance and Wear Signs of Bushings

Bushings are wear parts. Over time, exposure to elements and mechanical stress can cause the rubber or polyurethane they are made of to degrade, crack, or deform.

• Premature tire wear: Faulty bushings can affect wheel alignment.
• Excessive play: Abnormal play in suspension or steering components can be detected during an inspection.
• Visible degradation: Cracked, torn, sagging rubber, or fluid leaks (for some types of hydraulic bushings).
